Implant Aftercare
After implant placement, most patients experience only minor discomfort, which can be managed with the following guidelines:
General Care
Rest for the first two days; avoid sports, heavy lifting, or strenuous activity.
Avoid hot drinks for 24 hours.
Avoid alcohol and smoking for 2 weeks, as they can slow healing.
Denture wearers: discuss with your surgeon when to resume wearing your denture.
If you have a retainer, wear it daily to protect the implant and aid healing.
Sleep with an extra pillow for the first 2–3 nights to reduce swelling.
Avoid touching or exploring the implant site with your tongue.
Do not brush the implant area for at least 1 week.
Take antibiotics exactly as prescribed and complete the course. Contact the clinic if you have any reactions.
Bleeding & Oral Rinsing
Minor oozing may occur for a few hours after surgery.
If bleeding persists, apply gentle pressure with the provided gauze soaked in warm salt water for 20–30 minutes; repeat if necessary.
Start warm saltwater rinses the day after surgery (1/4–1/2 tsp salt in a cup of warm water), 2–3 times daily, especially after meals.
Rinse with Blue M mouthwash 3 times daily for up to 7 days.
Swelling & Comfort
Use ice packs on the area for 20–30 minutes at a time to reduce swelling.
Swelling may peak on day 2–3 and last a few days.
Special Care
If a metal collar is visible above the gum, do not bite or chew on it for at least 6 weeks.
Use OnGuard essential oil around (not directly on) the implant for comfort.
Eat soft foods only for the first week: boiled fish, scrambled eggs, pasta, rice, or blended foods.
